2. Kennebunk and Wells village / beach-adjacent pavement
Village streets and beach traffic in July. Ride signed pavement. Do not treat US 1 as a path. A commuter eBike for errand miles fits town loops -- equipment, not a shop keyword.
3. Saco and Biddeford mill-town pavement
Twin cities on the Saco River. Downtown and mill-district streets plus Eastern Trail access. They are listing towns, not a second corridor name.
4. Old Orchard Beach promenade pavement
Tourist density. Shared walk. Yield. Not the Eastern Trail itself. July is a pedestrian problem.
5. Kittery and York village pavement -- not the interstate
Kittery sits at the Piscataqua. Village pavement. I-95 to New Hampshire is a drive. York village is coastal streets. Do not treat the turnpike as a path.
6. Mt. Agamenticus eMTB caveat
PeopleForBikes listed Mt. Agamenticus near Ogunquit as an eMTB example. Natural-surface trails need land-manager authorization under §2063(14)(F). That is not the Eastern Trail. Do not assume Class 1-3 on woods loops.
Half-day and full-day eBike plans
Half day, Eastern Trail (2-3 hours): Kennebunk or Saco onto the named corridor. Turn around at a marsh boardwalk if wind is a wall.
Half day, town only: Kennebunk village pavement after a rain week.

Maine uses a three-class electric bicycle definition in 29-A M.R.S. §101 (PL 2019, c. 349): Class 1 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 20 mph. Class 2 may use a throttle and cuts off at 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 28 mph. An electric bicycle is treated as a bicycle on the road, not as a moped.
Under 29-A M.R.S. §2063(14), an electric bicycle operator is not subject to financial responsibility, driver's licenses, registration, or license plates. Manufacturers must affix a class, top assisted speed, and motor-wattage label. Do not modify speed capability without replacing that label. The motor must disengage when you apply the brakes, and Class 1 and Class 3 motors must cease when you stop pedaling. Class 3 bikes need a speedometer.
§2063(14)(F) is the path rule: Class 1 and Class 2 may use bicycle paths unless the municipality or land manager posts a ban. Class 3 may not use a bicycle path unless that path is in a highway or the land manager authorizes Class 3. An electric bicycle may not use a bicycle path designated for nonmotorized traffic if significant portions have a natural surface (gravel, stones, or wooden bridging) unless the land manager authorizes it.
