Maine defines Class 1, 2, and 3 electric bicycles in 29-A M.R.S. §101. 29-A M.R.S. §2063(14) treats operators like bicyclists, skips motor-vehicle registration and driver's licenses, requires a class label, and lets land managers ban classes on paths. Class 3 is off most bicycle paths unless authorized. Natural-surface nonmotorized paths need explicit permission. Under-16 riders cannot operate Class 2 or 3 and must wear a helmet.
