County parks: Sedgwick County Park and Northeast Sedgwick County Park
Sedgwick County Park is a 400-acre site in northwest Wichita, according to the county parks department report. The county lists four small lakes, a sledding hill, shelters, athletic courts, and rollerblading and biking trails. The facilities list on the county's park about page includes a bike trail.
The county park map puts the bike path network at 22,872 feet, or 4.33 miles. Loop 1, the park perimeter, is 18,280 feet (3.46 miles). Loop 2, the north half, is 9,837 feet (1.86 miles), and Loop 3, the south half, is 10,175 feet (1.93 miles). The numbers come from the county's park map PDF.
Park hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from January 1 through December 31. The county's 2024 resolution makes an exception: bike paths in Sedgwick County Park may be used at all hours. No e-bike rule was found for the park trails in the reviewed county sources, so the state default applies. Check posted signs when you arrive.
The Sedgwick County Zoo/Park Path connects the zoo and the park. TrailLink lists it at 8.9 miles of asphalt, open to biking, inline skating, and walking, and wheelchair accessible. TrailLink says there are four parking areas in the southwestern section of the trail system. You can enter North Shore Blvd off 13th Street, park at the ball fields off 13th St and Ridge Road, or park at the zoo, which has entrances on Zoo Blvd and Windmill Rd. TrailLink is a secondary source, so confirm access before you drive.
Northeast Sedgwick County Park is a different case. The county describes about 650 acres of grassland and wooded area, open dawn to dusk 365 days a year, and lists bicycles, camping, hunting, fishing, fires, and motorized vehicles as prohibited. Do not plan an eBike ride there, and confirm with the county parks office before any visit. The county's Northeast park page has the current wording.
Two other county items matter for group rides. County code 20-120, as published on kansasstateauthority.com, prohibits operating any bicycle except upon the county roadways provided, and it prohibits towing a person or animal on a sled or similar device while riding. The 2024 parks resolution also sets special event permit fees, and it lists runs, walks, bicycle, and cross country meets for non-profit groups at $100.00. Trails that cross city and county lines
The Prairie Sunset Trail is described by its own site as a 15-mile rail-banked trail between Garden Plain, Goddard, and Wichita in southwest Sedgwick County. It begins at 295th St West and continues to S Hoover Rd in Wichita. Trailheads are at Garden Plain, Goddard, and 111th St W, and you can reach the trail at any street crossing. The site says it is open year-round.
The Redbud Trail is listed at TrailLink as 16.1 miles across Butler and Sedgwick counties. It uses a former BNSF railway corridor through downtown Wichita. TrailLink gives endpoints from 702 N Hydraulic Ave in Wichita to US-400 in Andover, and from Lulu St. to Frisco St. in Augusta. It says the first 6 miles in Wichita are paved and much of the rest is gravel or crushed limestone, on a 10-foot-wide trail for non-motorized uses. Parking is at 702 N Hydraulic Ave.
Closure notice: the City of Wichita says the Red Bud Trail entrances on Rock Road and Woodlawn are closed. A fire set inside two culverts, roughly 42 inches in diameter and 60 feet long, collapsed part of the path. Staff are working on the repair timeline and cost, and the area will remain closed. Check the City of Wichita maps page before you plan a ride there.
Inside Wichita, TrailLink lists the Arkansas River Bike Path at 10 miles of asphalt, the K-96 Bicycle Path at 8 miles of asphalt, and the Gypsum Creek Bike Path at 6.5 miles of asphalt. A TrailLink review says the K-96 path is closed between 21st Street and Webb Road, which pushes riders into more city traffic. That review may be out of date, so check before you go. The City of Wichita says it maintains more than 100 miles of bicycle paths, lanes, and other facilities.

City GIS records code path ownership as either Sedgwick County or the City of Wichita, so one ride can cross more than one manager. Where no e-bike rule was found, the state default applies, and posted signs on the day win. The Wichita Bicycle Plan recommends requiring electric bicycles and electric mobility devices sold, rented, or leased in the city to be certified under appropriate UL safety standards. That is a recommendation in a plan, and we did not find it as a rule.

Kansas uses three classes. Class 1 is pedal-assist only, Class 2 adds a throttle, and Class 3 is pedal-assist up to 28 mph, with Class 1 and 2 assist generally ending at 20 mph. Secondary sources describe the definition in K.S.A. 8-1489 as a motor under 750 watts, but they disagree on whether the cap is "less than 750 W" or a "750-watt cap," so check the official text. Class 3 operators must be at least 16, and Kansas has no statewide bicycle or eBike helmet mandate, according to the guide linked below.
