Things To Do on an eBike in Windham County

Windham County is the southeast shop spine along the Connecticut River. This page does not invent a West River rail-trail -- the TrailLink slug that would have named it 404'd, and the generic West River Trail page on TrailLink is Oklahoma. Town pavement is the honest product.

Shop in Brattleboro. Putney and Bellows Falls are river towns. Londonderry and West Dover are mountain pins. I-91 is a drive.

Where to ride in Windham County

Stay on town pavement unless a land manager posts a bicycle path you can name from a current kiosk. We did not get a Vermont West River Trail facts block from TrailLink (404 on the Vermont slug; a different West River Trail page is Oklahoma). This guide will not steal an Oklahoma mileage figure or invent a 20-mile paved river path from that miss.

Connecticut River valley corridor in Windham County, Vermont

Windham riding country: river-town pavement and forest edge -- not an Oklahoma trail page.

1. Brattleboro town pavement

Brattleboro is the densest shop town on this hub. Hills, river-town streets, visitor traffic. Use eBike shops in Brattleboro. Downtown sidewalks are not trail.

2. Putney town pavement

Putney is a village grid north of Brattleboro. Public streets. Shop in Putney if that is where you sleep. US 5 is a drive, not a path.

3. Bellows Falls town pavement

River-town streets and the canal district grid. Shop in Bellows Falls. The river is scenery, not a second Island Line.

4. Londonderry and West Dover -- mountain pins

Ski-country shop cards. Town roads and posted recreation. Natural-surface rules under § 1136a can apply on designated nonmotorized trails. Drive VT 100 / VT 30. Do not treat those highways as rail-trails.

5. What we are not mapping

A sourced Vermont West River Trail mileage. Long Trail tread. Interstate shoulders.

Half-day and full-day eBike plans

Half day, Brattleboro grid (2 hours): Town streets from a Brattleboro card. Turn around at hills or heavy US 5 traffic.

Half day, Putney or Bellows Falls: Village pavement only.

Full day, two-town drive: Brattleboro morning, drive to Bellows Falls. I-91 is not the connector path.

Mountain towns only if posted: Londonderry and West Dover are not river-town pavement substitutes.

What not to ride

I-91 as a trail: drive.

Invented West River mileage from a 404: we do not have a Vermont TrailLink facts block for it.

Long Trail / hiking tread: foot trail, natural surface.

US 5 as a protected path between towns: A commuter-style eBike is for village streets, not a highway shoulder.

When to ride Windham County

May through October on town pavement. Mud season wrecks dirt. Winter is ski-country traffic in Dover and a freeze-thaw story in Brattleboro. Foliage crowds the river towns.

Shop hubs

Use city directories for phones and claim links. The county hub keeps every card.

Rental and tour operators

These rental or tour cards are preserved from the live directory. Call before you plan a ride day. A card is not today's inventory.

Vermont eBike rules snapshot

Vermont uses a three-class electric bicycle definition in 23 V.S.A. § 4(46): fully operable pedals, a saddle, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts. Class 1 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 20 mph. Class 2 may propel without pedaling and cuts off at 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 28 mph. An electric bicycle is not a motor vehicle. It is regulated under 23 V.S.A. § 1136a, not as an ATV.

Under § 1136a, operators have the rights and duties of bicyclists. Class 1-3 bikes are exempt from motor vehicle registration, inspection, and the ATV chapter. Class 3 bikes need a speedometer. A person under 16 may not operate a Class 3 bike but may ride as a passenger on a Class 3 designed for that. Manufacturers must label class, top assisted speed, and motor wattage. Tampering that changes speed capability requires a new label.

§ 1136a(e) lets an electric bicycle use places where bicycles are allowed, including highways, bike lanes, and bicycle or multiuse paths -- unless a municipality, local authority, or State agency with jurisdiction over a path prohibits Class 1 or 2 after notice and a hearing for safety or other legal obligations, or prohibits Class 3 on that path. That subsection does not apply to a trail specifically designated as nonmotorized with a natural surface made by clearing and grading native soil. The land manager of that kind of trail may regulate e-bikes separately. Posted signs beat this page. Read our Vermont eBike laws snapshot, then PeopleForBikes state laws, then the kiosk.

Brattleboro, Putney, and Bellows Falls are river-town pavement days. I-91 and US 5 are drives. Londonderry and West Dover are mountain pins with posted recreation. This page will not copy an Oklahoma West River Trail mileage or invent Vermont miles from a 404 TrailLink slug.

If a local kiosk names a West River path the morning you ride, believe the kiosk -- then still confirm e-bike status under section 1136a. Until a Vermont facts block exists here, town streets are the product. Long Trail tread stays foot country.

Call Brattleboro. River-town fleets are not Burlington volume. Mud wrecks dirt. Foliage crowds the villages. Shop West Dover only if that is the ski-country day.

Brattleboro remains the mechanical town for a river-village day. Putney and Bellows Falls are shorter grids. Londonderry and West Dover are mountain pins -- drive, then call. Until a Vermont West River facts block exists on TrailLink, this page will not invent miles.
