Main Street hills and harbor streets. Pedestrian density in July. Yield. This is not a second 20-mile corridor.

Searsport is the next harbor south. Village pavement. US 1 is a highway. Ride town streets.

4. Unity, Brooks, Belmont, Winterport

Inland and river-town listings. Village pavement. Do not invent a mega-trail because the county has six listing cities.

Acadia is Hancock. The Eastern Trail is Cumberland and York. Rockland Harbor is Knox County. Stay honest.

6. US 1 as a drive, not a path day

Midcoast US 1 is traffic and frost heaves. Drive to the next harbor if you need Rockland or Bucksport.

Maine uses a three-class electric bicycle definition in 29-A M.R.S. §101 (PL 2019, c. 349): Class 1 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 20 mph. Class 2 may use a throttle and cuts off at 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal-assist that cuts off at 28 mph. An electric bicycle is treated as a bicycle on the road, not as a moped.

Under 29-A M.R.S. §2063(14), an electric bicycle operator is not subject to financial responsibility, driver's licenses, registration, or license plates. Manufacturers must affix a class, top assisted speed, and motor-wattage label. Do not modify speed capability without replacing that label. The motor must disengage when you apply the brakes, and Class 1 and Class 3 motors must cease when you stop pedaling. Class 3 bikes need a speedometer.

§2063(14)(F) is the path rule: Class 1 and Class 2 may use bicycle paths unless the municipality or land manager posts a ban. Class 3 may not use a bicycle path unless that path is in a highway or the land manager authorizes Class 3. An electric bicycle may not use a bicycle path designated for nonmotorized traffic if significant portions have a natural surface (gravel, stones, or wooden bridging) unless the land manager authorizes it. The Belfast Rail Trail and harbor trestle are the sourced day. Wind off Penobscot Bay is the planning problem. Ice on the trestle in shoulder months is real. Walk it if the boards look glazed.

Searsport is the next harbor south. Village pavement. US 1 is a highway. Unity, Brooks, Belmont, and Winterport are inland or river towns with village pavement, not extra mega-trails.
