Empty Boise River Greenbelt through cottonwoods, Ada County, Idaho

Ada riding country: river greenbelt pavement -- not a panhandle rail-trail.

1. Boise River Greenbelt

The county marquee. About 25 paved miles through town. Start from eBike shops in Boise. Yield to walkers. Confirm the current city map. A commuter eBike is equipment, not a shop keyword. § 49-725 still leaves path exclusions to posted city signs.

2. Garden City and Greenbelt connectors

Shop in Garden City if a card exists. Short paved add-ons. Pedestrians. Construction gates close stretches.

3. Meridian and Eagle suburb pavement

Errands. Start from Meridian or Eagle. Not a second Greenbelt. I-84 is limited access.

4. Foothills Reserve approaches

Ridge-to-Rivers dirt is a land-manager question. An electric-assisted bicycle class label in § 49-106 does not open a closed hiking trail. Confirm the current Ridge to Rivers page.

5. What this county is not

Ketchum and the Wood River path are Blaine County. McCall and Payette Lake are Valley County. Do not paste those onto Boise.

6. Honest add-on: summer heat on the river

Cottonwood shade helps. Open stretches do not. Dawn from June through August.

Half-day and full-day eBike plans

Half day, Greenbelt (2-3 hours): Downtown toward Eagle or Garden City. Turn around when the path fills.

Do not: treat Ridge to Rivers singletrack as an eBike default. City and Ridge to Rivers signs win.

Do not: trailer here expecting Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes mileage. Drive north if that is the ride.

Do not: ride I-84. Limited access.

What not to ride

I-84: limited access.

Closed foothill hiking trails: Ridge to Rivers rules, not § 49-725 path language.

A July noon on an unshaded cut: heat.

The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes as an Ada add-on: Kootenai and Shoshone Counties. Drive.

Idaho eBike rules snapshot

Idaho defines an electric-assisted bicycle in Idaho Code § 49-106 as a bicycle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts. Class 1 assists only while you pedal and cuts off at 20 mph. Class 2 may propel without pedaling and is not capable of assisting at 20 mph. Class 3 assists only while you pedal and cuts off at 28 mph. A machine that does not match that definition is not an electric-assisted bicycle under this chapter.

Idaho Code § 49-725 gives the rider of an electric-assisted bicycle the same rights and duties as a bicycle rider. You may ride where bicycles are permitted unless a local ordinance or posted signage from the agency with jurisdiction excludes you after notice on a governing-board agenda. § 49-726 says electric-assisted bicycles are not subject to driver's licenses, titles, registration, or license plates. IDPR, USFS, BLM, NPS, and city signs still win off the street. Read our Idaho eBike laws snapshot, then the sign.

Boise River Greenbelt heat in unshaded cuts is a dawn clock. Idaho Code § 49-106 does not turn I-84 into a river connector. City signs win on the Greenbelt. Ridge to Rivers dirt is a land-manager question.

The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes is Kootenai and Shoshone Counties. The Wood River Trail is Blaine County. Shop in Boise. Call before a same-day rental size.

Ada County heat, wind, or snow change the return. A tailwind out is a headwind home. Turn around earlier than the map suggests. Idaho Code § 49-106 still leaves class and path rules to the statute and the land manager.

Do not copy another county's named corridor onto Ada County. The Boise River Greenbelt, Wood River Trail, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, Route of the Hiawatha, and Lewiston levee each have a home county. Shop where you will sleep. Call the card before a same-day rental size.

I-15, I-84, I-90, US 20, US 93, and US 95 are drives, not eBike connectors from Ada County. If the next marquee is another county, trailer or drive. Statewide class labels do not open a highway shoulder. Round note 2 for Ada County planning.

Chipseal, crushed stone, pine needles, and sage ruts in Ada County chew sidewalls. Carry a tube. A path-ready tire is equipment, not a reason to ignore a posted path. Confirm the land manager the morning you ride. Round note 2 for Ada County planning.

If you only have two hours in Ada County, ride the in-town named start and turn around. Full-day plans need water, a layer, and a confirmed return. Do not stack two counties on paths in one daylight window. Round note 3 for Ada County planning.
