4. Mystic and Stonington Borough -- 20 to 30 miles round trip from New London
Village roads, drawbridge, borough streets. Walk the crowded bits. Shops: eBike shops in Mystic or Stonington.
5. Avery Point and the Groton shore -- 8 to 14 miles
Campus and shore roads. Public road. Not a trail.
6. Thames waterfront and Fort Trumbull -- 4 to 6 miles
Harbor park and fort. Short downtown add-on.

Connecticut defines three classes of electric bicycle in Conn. Gen. Stat. § 14-1. Class 1 is pedal-assist that disengages when you stop pedaling or the bike reaches 20 mph. Class 2 may propel without pedaling and disengages when the brakes are applied or the bike reaches 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal-assist that disengages at 28 mph.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 14-289k gives electric bicycle riders the same rights and duties as bicycle riders. An electric bicycle may be ridden where bicycles are permitted, except as this section or a local ordinance says otherwise. Class 3 shall not be ridden on a bicycle trail or path or multiuse trail or path. Class 1 and Class 2 shall not be ridden on a natural-surface nonmotorized trail or path (cleared and graded soil, no added surfacing) unless a local ordinance permits it. No person under 16 may ride Class 3; a passenger under 16 is allowed only if the bike is designed to carry one. Every rider and passenger on an electric bicycle must wear protective headgear that meets ANSI, CPSC, ASTM, or Snell bicycle-helmet specs. Police, firefighters, and EMTs on duty are excepted from the path rules in subsections (b) through (d).
