More than 200 miles of selected Moab trails opened to Class 1 eBikes on March 1, 2026.

Moab has quietly been one of the toughest e-bike towns in the country -- incredible terrain, a lot of it closed to anything with a motor. That changed on March 1, 2026. Land managers have approved roughly 211 additional miles of trail for e-bike use around Grand County, with the new access opened on March 1, 2026.

What opened to Class 1 eBikes

The BLM decision opened more than 200 miles of selected Moab-area routes to Class 1 pedal-assist eBikes. This is not blanket access for throttle-equipped Class 2 or faster Class 3 bikes, and five trails remain excluded. Use the official BLM map because nearby routes can cross between BLM, state, and other land-management rules.

The access has been in effect since March 1, 2026. Before each trip, check the BLM page for the five excluded trails, temporary closures, current route conditions, and any seasonal restrictions.

Where to ride in Moab right now

You can ride the newly opened Class 1 network now, and Moab also has established eBike options. The Moab Brand Trails, just north of town, are already e-bike friendly and a good starting point -- the Bar M loop in particular is a forgiving, well-marked intro to the terrain before you graduate to bigger days. Pair it with the Colorado Riverway Scenic Byway for an easy recovery ride, or swing out to the Dead Horse Point State Park overlook for the view that sells everyone on this place.

Ride window matters here more than almost anywhere else in the country: March through May and September through November are the sweet spots. Summer midday heat in Moab isn't an inconvenience, it's a real risk -- plan rides for early morning if you're visiting June through August.
